SUMMARY:Samuel RUFAT (CREST) - "Social vulnerability\, spatial inequalities and risk aversion : adapting to climate change impacts"
DESCRIPTION:Applied Micro Seminar : Every Tuesday \nTime: 12:15 pm – 13:30 pm\nDate: 8th of october\nRoom : 3001 \n  \nSamuel RUFAT (CREST) – “Social vulnerability\, spatial inequalities and risk aversion : adapting to climate change impacts” \n  \nAbstract : “Climate change and socio-economic development in disaster-prone areas are causing rising risks over time\, especially flooding\, which is a worsening global issue. Disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation require proactive action by all the stakeholders\, including those residing in disaster-prone areas\, and understanding how these humans perceive the risks they face and adapt is crucial for effective policy. Drawing upon case studies from flood risk in European cities\, I will give an overview of existing research on the determinants of residents’ (lack of) risk-mitigating investments. Then\, I will describe the results of large-scale spatially-explicit surveys on attitudes toward flood risk that I collected on the Paris metropolitan region\, which point toward significant cognitive biases regarding risk exposure\, and I will discuss outstanding issues pertaining to non-random (and lack of) responses.” \n  \n  \nOrganizers: \nBenoît SCHMUTZ (Pôle d’économie du CREST) \nRoland RATHELOT (Pôle d’économie du CREST) \nClément MALGOUYRES (Pôle d’économie du CREST) \n  \nSponsors:\nCREST \n
